Speedway Energy Project

Sherman County, Oregon

In October 2025, Brookfield Renewable U.S. filed a Notice of Intent (NOI) with the Oregon Department of Energy to advance the Speedway Project.

The Speedway Project combines utility-scale solar, wind, and battery storage to generate nearly 1,400 megawatts of renewable energy.

Since first introducing the project, Brookfield has heard from local landowners and residents who see the opportunity to strengthen Sherman County’s economy while preserving its agricultural heritage. With their input, the project footprint has been refined to expand energy generation while protecting wildlife corridors and maintaining thousands of acres for continued agricultural production.

When complete, the Speedway Project will represent a more than $1 billion investment in Sherman County — creating over 1,400 jobs annually during construction, supporting local businesses, and delivering millions in new tax revenue to fund schools, infrastructure, and public safety.

The Speedway Project is designed to be a long-term partner for Sherman County, helping diversify the local economy while supporting Oregon’s clean energy goals.
